PRISM is very cheap!

Ok, so I just have one question relating to whole PRISM affair: how come it is so cheap? It is supposed to cost the taxpayers only 20 million $. That’s the retail price for all the servers NSA needs to have to gather, store and analyse the desired data from the famous 9 tech companies. Don’t you think that’s a suspiciously low price? Well if it’s real than I would like the NSA to do the hosting for me, looks like they are freaking cheap.

So maybe the core of this affair lays somewhere else: they are not using any of their servers. Maybe everything is being processed on tech companies servers?

Why I would never want to become a social media expert?

Remember back in the 90ies? Each person capable of doing something a little bit more complicated than turning the PC on and starting the desired program, was a computer genius. If someone could type on keyboard pretty fast, than he was an expert. Installing a program? Noooo… You have to call an expert for that. What happened to these people, when kids grew up. The kids that could do all of these things with eyes closed, while playing scrabble. Oooh and BTW everything got a lot easier to do.

So here we are XXI century decade of social media madness, social media experts, journals, analysts, companies, blabla… What for? Every kid is better in managing social media profile than most of these people and companies. And every kid has a lot of friends with the same skills. You think the world is going to need so many social media experts when all of these youngsters grow up and go to work?

NO! It’s gonna be just another necessary, basic skill everyone os gonna have to know. So who is gonna need all these social media experts? Just a few exceptions probably. If I were you I wouldn’t go for this kind of career in long therm planning.

Skittles, are you sure you want to ignore The Trevyon Martin case?

Skittles Trevyon Martin issueI won’t write about rights or wrongs of this event. Instead I will just make an observation: Skittles – wrong place at the wrong time. Boy how messed up this whole situation is for their PR department.

Unintentionally and completely not due to their actions, they have become part of nation-wide anti-racism-murder campaign. Their product wast the main witness and became one of the symbols of the Trevyon Martin case. And how do you live with that?

Kony 2012 from a different point of view – from Uganda

Western media are praising Kony 2012 campaign or criticizing it… if so, they do it mostly because it’s a yet another campaign run mostly on the Internet, without the TV or radio. It shows where the TV and other traditional media are heading. But Al Jazeera is a media company with a little different point of view and interests. That is why you should check out their report on the #Kony 2012.

What kind of people work on SOPA

SOPA censorshipHey there are pictures from satellites here, this isn’t good. Goddamn! I can see the White House, damn! My summer house is on that thing, I wonder if… nooo this is also on this website! We have got to take this of the Internet, how you call it? Google maps? I hope the Russians haven’t seen this already. This has satellite view of everything! Not safe! Very dangerous! I hope China had this site blocked, so they won’t see these pictures.

Laugh or cry? To us this level of Internet knowledge is funny, but let us not forget that these kind of people make the law in many countries, and even if they don’t, they do have the influence and power.

Sharing may be the future, not social sharing, sharing everything

I recently came upon the idea of Clouditems, and although I haven’t tried that service, because it isn’t made public yet its idea gave some thoughts worth sharing.

Our economics is driven by our empty unecological and greedy consumption. We are obsessed with the need to purchase or obtain in any other way lots of physical goods that will fulfill our lives. As the world goes on and we are presented with new products, the current ones aren’t attractive any more. This need causes our world to fill with dozens of unnecessary objects

But a junk for one person can be a valuable & precious item for another. Winter coat on Hawaii? Worthless, and in Alaska? iPhone 4 (not 4S, I mean the previous version iPhone just 4, no S) for a respectful media company manager? Worthless? But for poor kid from Brooklyn? It’s the same with the most basic of the products we need: food. And yet, somehow humanity hasn’t figured out how to eliminate hunger, even in times like today, when we produce too much food in earths overall balance. This issue doesn’t concern only objects. We are surrounded by physical objects, information and energy which value is very various for every person, depending on many circumstances. Continue reading

Why the lack of Internet and Social Media is so fucking dangerous in North Korea?

South and North Korea at night

South and North Korea at night

2012 may bring us a lot of tensions on Korean peninsula. This bothers me most as the vision of a conventional conflict with a nation totally cut off from the world is very disturbing. I would prefer a conflict with any other nation that has an Internet connection. I just don’t believe any nation is stupid enough to begin a conventional conflict if informed properly. Why SOPA is pro-war?

war posterFor centuries wars were fought sometimes only to benefit the few from ruling groups. Naturally the war propaganda deeply integrated with traditional media industry convinced the people to join or support the army & war. Government controlled (or at least friendly) media supported the war propaganda, so deceiving a nation was much easier. And the ruling group benefited. That will change a lot thanks to social media, if SOPA doesn’t kill them in 2012. Continue reading

James Bond is dead, Today we spy with Facebook and Twitter

Facebook spyGolden age of James Bond like intelligence agencies has come to an end. You don’t have to send your secret agents to gather intel, you do that through Google and Facebook. You want to have a switch in some suspicious company or foreign government agency? Friend with them on Facebook or other social network. Want to know what is going on in certain industry facilities? Observe geo-localized twitter stream. Double O’s were sent to acquire information and act. Nowadays there is no problem with information, the problem is with filtering and picking up the right one. SOPA for dummies

For the past decades you voted on politicians mostly basing on things you have seen/heard/read in traditional media. They always had some control over these media. Now it has changed and social media became more powerful, they (governments/ politicians) don’t have such power or control over these media. This can lead to unexpected change of power, or other events not wanted by the people ruling our countries. That is why they want to gain that control through SOPA.
