The future isn’t about owning things, it’s about leasing them

John Lennon once sang:

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can

And as it turns out, he may have been right in predicting the future. No possession is an old idea, that did not work quite well, when it was implemented by the communists. But believe or not, like it or not our world may be heading into that direction once again. This time not because of the communism ideology, but sheer and honest capitalism greed :) So how did that happen? Continue reading

Lets say you’re the government… and you see that something like the Internet goes out of control

GovernmentWith all this SOPA buzz going around lets stop for a moment and put ourselves in governments body. So you are the government, your goal? Wealth of the state? Kind of, because everybody cares mostly for himself, caring for the other organization like… the state is usually put behind the personal interests. Don’t forget about this fact in further reading of this post.

What governments like and what they dislike? Government like every other organization has its assets. Although in this case, these assets are vast – it’s the whole country, its resources, people, capital, technologies, infrastructure etc., etc. The government loves the idea of control over these assets. What kind of people work on SOPA

SOPA censorshipHey there are pictures from satellites here, this isn’t good. Goddamn! I can see the White House, damn! My summer house is on that thing, I wonder if… nooo this is also on this website! We have got to take this of the Internet, how you call it? Google maps? I hope the Russians haven’t seen this already. This has satellite view of everything! Not safe! Very dangerous! I hope China had this site blocked, so they won’t see these pictures.

Laugh or cry? To us this level of Internet knowledge is funny, but let us not forget that these kind of people make the law in many countries, and even if they don’t, they do have the influence and power.

SOPA will kill Google firewall

Hard to believe? 2 years ago continues cyber-attacks from China were made public by Google. These attacks were targeting major big tech companies within US. Lots of sources claimed that China was attacking American companies for several years and Google was the first one to blow the whistle on the issue. The White House was put in a bad position by Google, they had to condemn the attacks, though they probably didn’t want to do that. After all their economy, thus political life depends on China and its money assets ready to finance Americas debt. So they’ve condemned the attacks, Google got out of China  and bloggers, reporters and journalists started digging.

Some pretty amazing facts came to light. Some internet security spec-ops guy started his career protecting government networks against foreign attacks. On that job, he became so preoccupied with the scale of Chinese hacking that a senior military officer told him to stop talking about it, with the gruff explanation that “the reason this is still going on is that the Chinese government now owns us.” Continue reading

Why the lack of Internet and Social Media is so fucking dangerous in North Korea?

South and North Korea at night

South and North Korea at night

2012 may bring us a lot of tensions on Korean peninsula. This bothers me most as the vision of a conventional conflict with a nation totally cut off from the world is very disturbing. I would prefer a conflict with any other nation that has an Internet connection. I just don’t believe any nation is stupid enough to begin a conventional conflict if informed properly. Why SOPA is pro-war?

war posterFor centuries wars were fought sometimes only to benefit the few from ruling groups. Naturally the war propaganda deeply integrated with traditional media industry convinced the people to join or support the army & war. Government controlled (or at least friendly) media supported the war propaganda, so deceiving a nation was much easier. And the ruling group benefited. That will change a lot thanks to social media, if SOPA doesn’t kill them in 2012. Continue reading

2012 – what should we expect?

2012Yeah, I know Micro payments, augmented reality etc. Anything more? Yes, even more and stronger social media reporting. More uncertainty on the markets. Facebook fail? Google going the Microsoft way? And millions of people protesting on the streets. Ridiculous right? Continue reading

SOPA for dummies

For the past decades you voted on politicians mostly basing on things you have seen/heard/read in traditional media. They always had some control over these media. Now it has changed and social media became more powerful, they (governments/ politicians) don’t have such power or control over these media. This can lead to unexpected change of power, or other events not wanted by the people ruling our countries. That is why they want to gain that control through SOPA.
